June 17, 2025 – Turmeric Curry Sauce & Chronic Pain Management for Seniors

Past Events

On June 17, 2025, the Association of Certified Professional Nutritionists (ACPN) successfully hosted a special workshop in Vaughan titled “Nourishing Connections: Turmeric Curry Sauce & Chronic Pain Management for Seniors.” The event was partially funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program and focused on helping seniors manage chronic pain through scientific nutrition and culinary education. ACPN Senior Registered Nutritionist and Canadian College of Public Health lecturer Ms. Julia Wong led the session, providing a comprehensive overview of pain classification, explaining the difference between acute and chronic pain, and highlighting that over 60% of seniors experience musculoskeletal pain. She emphasized a multi-pronged approach to pain management—combining symptom assessment, lifestyle review, dietary analysis, and lab testing for key markers such as vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids.

A highlight of the event was the live demonstration of a “Golden Anti-Inflammatory Curry Sauce,” featuring turmeric powder (rich in curcumin), virgin coconut oil, black pepper (piperine to enhance absorption by 300%), and ginger powder for synergistic anti-inflammatory benefits. Participants had the chance to prepare and taste the dish while learning how curcumin inhibits the NF-κB pathway and reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines, offering pain relief comparable to certain NSAIDs. The workshop provided seniors with practical, evidence-based strategies to lower inflammation, improve joint function, and enhance quality of life. Beyond the nutrition education, the event created a warm, interactive environment that fostered new friendships and strengthened community ties, supporting ACPN’s mission to combine professional expertise with social connection for healthier, happier aging.
