Nourishing Connections to Combat Loneliness by Cooking

On Sunday, December 21, 2025, the Association of Certified Professional Nutritionists (ACPN), in collaboration with Aishang Arts Centre, successfully hosted a festive Christmas & New Year Celebration with the Joy of Flavours at Oriole Community Centre in North York.

This joyful community gathering was part of ACPN’s ongoing initiative, “Nourishing Connections to Combat Loneliness by Cooking,” funded in part by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. The event brought together seniors, families, and community members to celebrate the holiday season through food, culture, and meaningful social connection.

Celebrating Togetherness Through Food, Arts, and Culture

The Christmas and New Year season is traditionally a time of warmth and celebration, yet it can also be a period of isolation for many seniors. This event was thoughtfully designed to create a welcoming, inclusive space where participants could enjoy shared meals, cultural performances, and artistic expression—fostering connection, joy, and emotional well-being.

Throughout the afternoon, participants experienced the joy of flavors through festive food offerings, while vibrant cultural and artistic performances by Aishang Arts Centre filled the room with energy, color, and celebration. Laughter, music, and shared moments transformed the community centre into a warm holiday gathering space where everyone felt included and valued.

Highlights of the Event

  • Festive food experiences celebrating seasonal flavors

  • Cultural and artistic performances in a joyful holiday atmosphere

  • Meaningful social interaction and community engagement
