2026.01.29 A Warm Community Evening with Home-Style Cooking, Karaoke, and Meaningful Connections

Past Events

On Thursday, January 29, 2026, the Association of Certified Professional Nutritionists (ACPN) successfully hosted “Nourishing Connections to Combat Loneliness by Cooking”, a warm and engaging community gathering held in Markham, Ontario. The program was funded in part by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program, whose support made it possible to create an accessible, engaging, and uplifting experience for older adults in the community.

This special evening brought together members of the Chinese University Alumni Senior Club, friends, and community participants for an experience that blended home-style food, karaoke, and relaxed conversation. Participants enjoyed a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where they could reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and share meaningful moments through music and food.

The event was thoughtfully designed to address social isolation and loneliness among seniors by fostering genuine human connection in a relaxed, joyful setting. Singing familiar songs, sharing meals, and engaging in casual conversation created a sense of belonging and emotional warmth that extended well beyond the evening itself.

ACPN believes that nutrition is more than food alone—it also encompasses emotional well-being, social engagement, and community support. This gathering reflected ACPN’s holistic approach to health by recognizing the vital role that shared experiences and interpersonal connections play in overall wellness.

ACPN sincerely thanks all participants, volunteers, and community partners who contributed to the success of this event. We look forward to continuing to develop programs that nourish both body and spirit, strengthen social bonds, and enhance the quality of life for older adults in our communities.
